Delicious Orange Cream Text in Photoshop

Add Some Yellow Zest

In the Layers panel, click on the second “Orange Cream” layer from the top. This is the one in white.
Press Ctrl+J (Mac: Cmd+J) to duplicate the layer.
Move this duplicated layer to the top of the stack.

Select the Type tool and change the text color for this layer to a slightly orangy-yellow. I chose R: 255, G: 228, B: 0.

In the Layers panel, Ctrl+click (Mac: Cmd+click) on the layer thumbnail for the brownish text (the bottom “Orange Cream” layer).

This will create a “marching ants” selection in the layer window.

Select > Inverse to invert the selection.
In the Layers panel, make sure you still have the top-most “Orange Cream” layer selected.
Click on the Add Layer Mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

This should be your result. Most of the yellow is hidden. However, there are still some yellow bits that overlap the orange edges:

Fix the Yellow Overlap

In the Layers panel, Ctrl+click (Mac: Cmd+click) on the layer thumbnail for the orange (the second “Orange Cream” layer).

Select any of the Marquee selection tools in the Tools panel. This will allow you to move the selection outlines.

Use your arrow keys to move the selection up and to the left. I pressed the up arrow twice and the left arrow twice.

Select > Inverse again.
In the Layers panel, click on the layer mask thumbnail for the top-most “Orange Cream” layer. It’s the rectangle that show the text in black.

Edit > Fill. For Use, choose Black. Click OK.

Press Ctrl+D (Mac: Cmd+D) to deselect.

To complete the effect, add orange “SHAKES & MALTS” text centered underneath. Use a thick, bold sans-serif (“without serif”) font. I used 48pt Antigoni Bold.
