Paint a dashed line with rounded corners in Photoshop

Photoshop Part 2: Putting the Dash Brush into Action

  1. Create or open a document.
  2. Select the Brush tool in the Tools panel.

  1. In the Control panel, select your Dash brush. It should be all the way at the bottom of the Brush Preset picker.

  1. Still in the Brush Preset picker, reduce the Master Diameter. I set mine to 30px.

  1. Pick a foreground color for your dashed line.

  1. Open the Brushes panel (Window > Brushes).

  1. Click on Brush Tip Shape on the left edge of the Brushes panel.
  2. Increase the Spacing. I set mine to 503%. Notice how the preview window at the bottom shows you a dashed line.

  1. Click on Shape Dynamics on the left edge of the Brushes panel.
  2. Use the Control dropbox box under Angle Jitter to change the Angle to Direction. This will change the angle of the dash according to the direction of the line you paint.

  1. Paint your line! I recommend you do this on its own layer.

  1. If the dashed line is on its own layer, try a Layer Effect on it too (Layer > Layer Style). I added a drop shadow.
